Omne Trium Perfectum
They say bad things come in threes: misfortunes, children, crimes.
Omne trium perfectum, I say.
My brothers and I are three, but I’m youngest—the charmer. I lure the victims.
Then: Three cuts.
This 33-word story is my response to this weekend’s Trifextra challenge: Third time’s the charm. I went creepy with it, clearly. Check out the rest of this week’s stories for all kinds of great reading fun.
And happy weekend everyone!
*The phrase “omne trium perfectum” is Latin and roughly means “everything in threes is perfect/complete.”
Good piece! Very ominous!
Thanks Joe!
Yep, definitely creepy 🙂
Ha, well I figured I hadn’t gotten really creepy for a while, so it was about time. Thanks for reading
That was charming. hehe. Lovely creepy 🙂
Thanks Maggie, glad it charmed you haha
dang! I would read this book! “I’m the charmer” indeed
“Creepy” is right! I’ve got chills!
Incredible work. 😀
Thanks 🙂 Bad guys can be fun to write
Ah! That’s super creepy! Also: awesome. Thanks for linking up!
clever use of the “charm” prompt
Creepy! And very nicely done Brian!
Thanks Suzanne!
And he sounds so sweet, ‘I’m youngest—the charmer. I lure the victims.’ Great take on the prompt.
Yeah, just youngest child psychology really, right? Thanks for reading!
You’re a sly one! A little Latin always ups the stakes too :)))
Real nice, Brian!
Dark and surprising. I like that you peeped so much in the thirty three words. I have a hard time doing the same. I have a hard time thinking of children as trouble, I’ve always mistrusted people who don’t like children or animals. Now wanting to watch them is another matter.
I’m generally with you – kids are great. But when they grow up, now that’s when you have to look out!
Truly sinister. I thought it was going for a humorous slant when you mentioned children as a bad thing (: Definitely a children of the corn vibe haha
Haha, thanks Draug. Yeah, I wondered what perception people would have of their ages — how young people would think the “youngest” might be. Anyway, in this case the children definitely did turn out to be trouble. Thanks for coming by!
3 has always been my favorite number. I have 3 daughters and I see how they are so different. My 3rd is also the charmer. Terrific job bringing out the freaky!
Something about youngest children I guess! Hopefully she’s not quite as charming as this guy haha. Thanks Deana
Lot of charm in that little kid
yowsers!
creepy and so good. I liked the LATIN add, it gives the scene a punch.
just for the record my favorite number is 3, I like things that come in 3’s. (I am the oldest of 3 ..not the youngest. 😉
great job Brian, congratulations!
Congratulations, Brian! Well deserved.
