Omne Trium Perfectum

English: Three Ek Knives

Omne Trium Perfectum

They say bad things come in threes: misfortunes, children, crimes.

Omne trium perfectum, I say.

My brothers and I are three, but I’m youngest—the charmer. I lure the victims.

Then: Three cuts.

This 33-word story is my response to this weekend’s Trifextra challenge: Third time’s the charm. I went creepy with it, clearly. Check out the rest of this week’s stories for all kinds of great reading fun.

And happy weekend everyone!

*The phrase “omne trium perfectum” is Latin and roughly means “everything in threes is perfect/complete.”

  1. Good piece! Very ominous!

  2. Yep, definitely creepy 🙂

  3. That was charming. hehe. Lovely creepy 🙂

  4. dang! I would read this book! “I’m the charmer” indeed

  5. “Creepy” is right! I’ve got chills!

    Incredible work. 😀

  6. Ah! That’s super creepy! Also: awesome. Thanks for linking up!

  7. clever use of the “charm” prompt

  8. Creepy! And very nicely done Brian!

  9. And he sounds so sweet, ‘I’m youngest—the charmer. I lure the victims.’ Great take on the prompt.

  10. You’re a sly one! A little Latin always ups the stakes too :)))

  11. Real nice, Brian!

  12. Dark and surprising. I like that you peeped so much in the thirty three words. I have a hard time doing the same. I have a hard time thinking of children as trouble, I’ve always mistrusted people who don’t like children or animals. Now wanting to watch them is another matter.

  13. Truly sinister. I thought it was going for a humorous slant when you mentioned children as a bad thing (: Definitely a children of the corn vibe haha

    • Haha, thanks Draug. Yeah, I wondered what perception people would have of their ages — how young people would think the “youngest” might be. Anyway, in this case the children definitely did turn out to be trouble. Thanks for coming by!

  14. 3 has always been my favorite number. I have 3 daughters and I see how they are so different. My 3rd is also the charmer. Terrific job bringing out the freaky!

  15. Lot of charm in that little kid

  16. creepy and so good. I liked the LATIN add, it gives the scene a punch.

just for the record my favorite number is 3, I like things that come in 3’s. (I am the oldest of 3 ..not the youngest. 😉

    great job Brian, congratulations!

  17. Congratulations, Brian! Well deserved.
