John Henry Fuseli The Nightmare

and the devil wakes.

(His mind is restless).

You climb from bed in a rage

to confront the intruder,

but find only mirrors, faces—

and sins etched in the details

  1. Great one … and I love the picture

  2. Nice job. Seeing the devil in the mirror is so true, we often see sin as outside ourselves, but the mirror doesn’t lie. The picture is a bit creepy to me, though 🙂

  3. Love this Brian! Dark and vivid. And I love that painting – great choice!

  4. Well done! I don’t like gore so was pleased it was left to the imagination.

  5. wow, that was powerful and just creepy enough to have me look behind my chair.
Yes, the painting brought it all to life for me.

  6. shiver . . . durned devil!

  7. Tough not to see every little flaw when confronted with a mirror’s unwavering reflction. Evocative piece, Brian. Well done.

  8. Oooh this is chilling. And that horse-faced demon is terrifying O__O

  9. Great work , equally great shot chosen to reflect your words Brian.

  10. Sin etched in the details? That’s fantastic!

  11. Think Olivia Newton John singing, “Lets get meta physical, meta physical.” Of course that could be hell? Good use of post and prompt.

  12. Well said-the devil is within us-& if we are able to recognize it after introspection,we may still be able to conquer it:-)Great picture & a wonderfully refelctive post Brian:-)

  13. Creepy devil in those twisty details!
